Our visit to Brooklyn was first and foremost for Mary Dougherty Photography: two engagement sessions were planned and documented over the weekend (you can see them here and here). However, fun needed to be had in the process as it would be the last escape before the baby. When I say fun, I literally mean anything from spending the night gallivanting around town to jumping into bed early and curling up with a good movie. We chose the latter. Can you blame us as parents? I thought so.

While our weekend was full it was most definitely worth it. Documenting couples in the city they met and fell in love adds to the memory of the moment. Shooting in new spaces is invigorating. I love to travel to photograph weddings and engagements when I have the chance.

A Wythe hotel wedding is something I would love to document, and part of the reason we planned our stay there. I wanted to see the rooms for myself, get a feel for the building and a sense for the space you could work with. The light is clear and pours through large windows and the rooms are indulgent but simple… which makes it a perfect spot to get ready on the day of. Do people choose their hotel based on aesthetics and the ease with which to take pictures? I do! It makes all the difference when you plan to be in a room with available light, or shoot with the best light of the day.

A classic Cape Cod wedding never goes out of style, especially at the Kittansett Club.

A Chautauqua wedding is stunning no matter the size. Karen and Walker pivoted to host the most amazing micro wedding at this historic American retreat.
