We spent several hours searching for and talking about the perfect orchard to photograph in. Some were too commercial, others were not willing to host us and our favorite was hardest to get a hold of. We heard back at the last minute from our favorite – Red Jacket Orchard – makers of the fantastic cold pressed juice from Geneva, New York. Heather and Dave would be back in the western New York area for the weekend and we literally decided the day before where we would shoot. Geneva was our spot, and it was also the place that Heather and Dave used to meet at during college, being a convenient stop in between Rochester and Syracuse.

Their relationship has a history : first getting to know each other and then later falling in love. It was not what they expected when they first met, but they found something extraordinary together. Some of the best things in life are not planned.

In the end we didn’t get the apple filled trees we had hoped for, but it didn’t matter. We met at Ravine’s Winery and explored some of the surrounding plum orchards and captured these gorgeous images. At the end of our shoot we stopped by Seneca Lake and saw the sunset before heading home. I couldn’t ask for more wonderful people to work with. Heather and Dave reflect the happiness and light that you see in these photos and I am so thrilled to be photographing their wedding day next year! See you there and enjoy these favorites from their shoot.

I have loved incorporating film into my work flow and this session was shot on both – approximately half of the images in this post are film shot on a Contax 645 and developed + scanned by the FIND lab. fall-geneva-ny-engagement-mary-dougherty04fall-geneva-ny-engagement-mary-dougherty05fall-geneva-ny-engagement-mary-dougherty06fall-geneva-ny-engagement-mary-dougherty09fall-geneva-ny-engagement-mary-dougherty08fall-geneva-ny-engagement-mary-dougherty07fall-geneva-ny-engagement-mary-dougherty10fall-geneva-ny-engagement-mary-dougherty11fall-geneva-ny-engagement-mary-dougherty12ravines-wineryfall-geneva-ny-engagement-mary-dougherty13fall-geneva-ny-engagement-mary-dougherty14fall-geneva-ny-engagement-mary-dougherty15fall-geneva-ny-engagement-mary-dougherty16fall-geneva-ny-engagement-mary-dougherty17fall-geneva-ny-engagement-mary-dougherty18fall-geneva-ny-engagement-mary-dougherty19fall-geneva-ny-engagement-mary-dougherty20fall-geneva-ny-engagement-mary-dougherty21fall-geneva-ny-engagement-mary-dougherty22fall-geneva-ny-engagement-mary-dougherty23fall-geneva-ny-engagement-mary-dougherty24

A classic Cape Cod wedding never goes out of style, especially at the Kittansett Club.

A Chautauqua wedding is stunning no matter the size. Karen and Walker pivoted to host the most amazing micro wedding at this historic American retreat.
