They planned their Strathallan wedding with ease. It was impossibly refined and yet unavoidably laid back : no pretense and enough fun to last the year through. It takes real skill to plan such a day, and it’s just one of the things that make Kaytie and Colin extraordinary. I know their friends and family would agree. To be invited to step in and witness all of the beauty of their relationships is what makes me love what I do. I wouldn’t be Mary Dougherty Photography if I wasn’t also Mary the photographer who helps guide you through decisions of wedding planning, walks along side as you navigate life during this busy time, and builds a friendship as you approach one of the greatest celebrations of your life.
Kaytie and Colin are undoubtedly loyal and attracted a tribe of people you wanted to be a part of. That’s what happens when you invest in others, and when you get that group together to celebrate it make for a unforgettable day.

Getting ready for their Strathallan wedding happened right at the hotel, which made the day unfold easily. Down the hall the reception space was being meticulously set with florals from Wegmans by Maura Harrison. The bridal party prepared in separate suites as beautiful light spilled in through the windows. Kaytie chose a classic Vera Wang gown with a low back and buttons that hung beautifully in Hattie’s.
Louelle Studio made their custom wedding invitation suite which featured pen and ink drawing, watercolor and the most beautiful copper band to hold it together.
David Austen Roses made the most amazing and colorful wedding bouquet – thanks of course to Maura!
In addition to letting her bridesmaids choose their own navy bridesmaid dresses, Kaytie gifted them personalized stationary from Louelle.
Once ready, we went to the nearby Memorial Art Gallery for a first look and bridal party portraits. Kaytie met Colin under the linden trees and we stayed cool in on that hot August wedding day.
On nearby East Ave guests gathered at St. Paul’s church for the ceremony, a beautiful space with history and architecture.
Kaytie greeted her students after the ceremony and celebrated with them before everyone came back for their Strathallan wedding and the cocktail hour.
When you attend your cocktail hour you get to have fun, talk with guests and enjoy some of the delicious food you picked out months ago. I think my favorite thing about watching couples be present for this time is seeing them really experience their wedding and and be a part of what they planned for their guests.
I’m always a fan of stepping out at sunset and capturing the gorgeous light on film. Once inside it didn’t take long for the party to get started and like I said, they know how to throw a party.
It always helps when you have a table full of goodies from Scratch bakeshop – especially these glazed vegan donuts (I’m going to go to sleep dreaming about them I think).
The night continued on as the city lights glowed, and it was a day, a wedding, a celebration you will never forget. Cheers once again Kaytie + Colin!! May this day direct the story of your lives together as you live, laugh and love!
