Taking pictures for friends is such an honor, and Sarah Knight (now founder of Roc Girl Gang) commissioned a family session. Sarah was one of my first friends at college, and we were the only two freshman girls on the cross-country team. She was skeptical of me at first with my glasses and high socks (but with a description like that who wouldn’t be?) but once we spent our first afternoon after practice sharing snacks and talking we started a friendship that would last for years…. no, decades.
I remember seeing her off as she and Rusty went on their first date that same year in college. Several years later (we don’t have to count) they are raising an adorable son in Rochester and proving – at least to me – that being parents can be fun. I know that you can’t always look this good as a family (right?), but if you can make it out the door for pictures as well coordinated as they are that’s enough for me. I like to photograph my friends – which is probably why I try to turn all clients in to friends – and had a great time documenting their family. Enjoy!
One secret trick that made portraits of just Sarah + Rusty possible – and kept everyone entertained when we wanted to get some of the whole family – was that we weren’t alone! Kingsley’s favorite aunt and uncle came along :) and played with him so he could have a break from the camera. It was a great way to shoot and even if there aren’t other family members around to help out, combining play with photos is a great way to keep the session moving smoothly.
Yep, you guys are still a good looking couple and you make pretty adorable kids. We all want more.
even though we made it to plan z – oreos – the session was seamless and Kingsley as obedient as can be. Sometimes you have to break out a few tricks to keep everyone happy.
