This Easter tradition is one I have not participated in for years. Having a two year old gives me a reason to pull out art projects and get really serious while I let her have fun. My friend Meg visited us last weekend and while Daphne was stirring eggs and dying her fingers blue we were planning to decorate our most elaborate eggs ever. After doing a bit of searching we both picked a method of egg decorating to use. I decided on Oh Happy Days Watercolor eggs (mainly because it looked like the easiest way to decorate with the most impact) and Meg choose the graphic lines tutorial from Martha Stewart.

The first step was blowing out the eggs – which was not the easiest thing to do and precisely why we ended up giving that job to Matt. The eggs dried, and over the next two days we decorated them slowly. I used gouache paint to swirl and blend colors on the eggs, and it basically took no skill at all. Meg on the other hand, placed electrical tape as precisely as possible (it wasn’t that easy) and decorate in different layers of color to create the most stunning effect (in my opinion – I love a good graphic detail).

Our chickens started laying just in time. Even though we have a light set up to extend daylight for them they took a long break and went a few months without any eggs at all. It was a hard winter for everyone – and we lost one chicken to hawk so we are down to 9 total. We saved up the white eggs since most of them lay brown, but we plan on dying a few more for a old fashioned egg hunt! I don’t think I’ve ever done one with real eggs, but why not?

A classic Cape Cod wedding never goes out of style, especially at the Kittansett Club.

A Chautauqua wedding is stunning no matter the size. Karen and Walker pivoted to host the most amazing micro wedding at this historic American retreat.
