The Notre Dame wedding of Alexandra Lane and Michael O’Neill was a three day event. From a golf tournament to stadium after-party, these New Yorkers had it all. Having met as Notre Dame students, it wasn’t until Alexandra was in her first year of law school that Mike reached out. After four years together, he proposed in the South of France, and they knew immediately they would return to their alma mater to wed.

I first met Alexandra at her cousin’s wedding, shortly before her engagement in Paris. In fact she whispered in my ear it was likely to happen. It was then that I learned of their amazing story. Mike asked her out to dinner in New York, while living in San Francisco. He bought a plane ticket to come to their date and the rest is history.
We connected over her vision for wedding photography—one that would honor Notre Dame’s significance while avoiding predictable campus locations. In the months leading up to their wedding, we identified distinctive architectural elements and quiet corners of campus that held personal meaning. This allowed us to create a visual narrative that was unmistakably Notre Dame yet uniquely theirs.

During cocktail hour, Michael’s mother orchestrated an unexpected moment—access to the Notre Dame football stadium for photographs. The resulting images, particularly one of Alexandra in her Oscar de la Renta gown with Mike on the field, later appeared on Vogue’s Instagram.
The wedding has also been featured on Over The Moon, documenting the distinct fashion choices and curated design with the sophisticated elements that defined their celebration.

“Although we love Notre Dame, we wanted the wedding to be our own and to feel like a beautiful wedding rather than a Notre Dame tailgate or event,” Alexandra explained. The couple purposefully chose colors distinct from the university’s palette and transformed the reception space accordingly.
The Basilica of the Sacred Heart hosted their ceremony on June 17, 2023. “Ever since our first date, there was never a day that I didn’t think I would marry Mike, so I felt really calm during the ceremony; like I was exactly where I was supposed to be,” Alexandra noted. “Mike, on the other hand, couldn’t stop crying.”

Wedding Weekend Golf Tournament
The celebration commenced with a golf tournament reflecting the couple’s shared passion for the sport. This initial event established the weekend’s tone: personal, considered, and attentive to detail. Documenting these pre-wedding activities provided context and depth to the complete wedding narrative.
Wedding Weekend Styling
Anny Choi of Over The Moon Styling curated selections for Alexandra for the weekend. For the golf tournament at Notre Dame she wore a Renwick Golf Sweater. Paired with a Tory Sport skirt, it precisely matched their green tournament logo . A stop at the infamous Mood fabrics is where she picked up the perfect ribbon for her hair.

Custom Rehearsal Dinner Dress
For the rehearsal dinner and welcome party, Alexandra worked with Patricia Voto of One/Of on a custom dress. An unexpected blue bow in back complimented the modern silhouette. Anny Choi facilitated the collaboration.
On the wedding day, Alexandra wore a strapless floral Oscar de la Renta gown with a sweeping veil and Manolo Blahnik heels. Her bridesmaids complemented her in white Amsale dresses with coordinating bouquets by Life In Bloom. Michael selected a Ralph Lauren tuxedo, accented with monogrammed Tiffany cufflinks—a gift from Alexandra.
For the after-party, Alexandra changed into an Alex Perry Elyse dress. Originally icarrying her customized Edie Parker “Mrs. O’Neill” clutch—a Christmas gift from Michael. The shift in attire marked a transition in the evening’s atmosphere from formal celebration to jubilant revelry.
Notre Dame Stadium Reception
The reception featured thoughtful moments including Alexandra’s father-daughter dance to the Masters Tournament theme song. It was a nod to their shared love of golf. Conversely, Michael’s choreographed performance with his mother included a surf style dance break.

Notre Dame Stadium Concourse After Party
The after-party, held in the stadium concourse, embraced Notre Dame traditions that had been thoughtfully restrained during the reception. Michael changed into his shamrock blazer. This iconic garment was from his undergraduate football game attendance. Guests moved from the formal reception space to the concrete concourse below.
“It was so fun to see all our guests in their tuxes and gowns, dancing on the 50 yard line in the concrete stadium concourse and getting food and drinks from the stadium’s snack bars,” Alexandra recalled. “The whole after-party was a juxtaposition to the very formal wedding.”
The evening concluded with the presentation of Michael’s golf-themed groom’s cake by Flourish Cake Design. However, the actual end of the night wasn’t until 2 or 3 when the music stopped spinning.
