Occasionally I think my life is as glamorous as the images I take… and then I see a picture of myself.
While my work as a wedding photographer is comprised of a variety of tasks and challenges, it generally revolves around making people look good. Telling the best story of the day, capturing the right emotion and doing so beautifully. It’s easy to think that my life is playing out right along side those images, in a perfectly documented way… but it generally doesn’t. Don’t get me wrong, I show up to the day looking my best and ready to go, but it’s not about me. It’s about the people in front of my camera, who I’m working hard to put at ease and capture with the right look.
When Tim, a groomsman, offered to take a picture of Jake and I on the dance floor after 8 hours of shooting, I did what any normal person would do and started to break out my sweet moves. I’m not sure what moves Jake decided to break out but it turns out both of us need to watch Step Up I, II + III and put in some quality practice time.
Darn it! Why don’t I look as good dancing as I think I do?
