The best part of the Adirondacks are the memories you make there. Kate and Dan chose to have an elegant Lake Placid Lodge Wedding largely in part because it brought together the best of both worlds : outdoor adventure with elegance and style. It combined their two perspectives just like they had combined their lives. They planned a day to celebrate their love with the people that mattered most and I couldn’t have been more honored to photograph it.
Wedding at Lake Placid Lodge
Dan, having come regularly to the Adirondacks and no stranger to camping or roughing it, met Kate who was not unwelcome to the idea of enjoying the outdoors but that was not her idea of unwinding. They gradually started entering each others worlds and found that together they could enjoy the best each had to offer. Not only that, they were in love and couldn’t imagine life apart.
The Whiteface Suite
Up at the top of the main building in the Lake Placid Lodge is the Whiteface Suite. A stunning room with many hand carved and painted details, it also features an outdoor bed hanging on the porch with the view above.
An escape to the mountains for a Lake Placid Lodge wedding in May brought beautiful weather and blue skies. Living here year round, I know how unpredictable it can be and am thrilled we had such luck. In the Whiteface Suite Kate + Dan got ready together and then split up for a first look once all dressed.
The Grounds
After a few minutes together alone to start off pictures, we spent a few minutes on the property for portraits. After that all of the formal photos were captured, and everyone could relax and enjoy being together.
The Ceremony
The ceremony space at the Lodge was the porch you see below, with a small aisle of chairs on either side. It is perfect for intimate weddings and small groups that want to be shaded from sun or clear of weather. I’ve actually shot here in the winter as well and everything is heated so well.
A Classic Boat Ride at the Lake Placid Lodge
After vows were exchanged and the ceremony ended it was time for a lodge tradition – a boat ride in their stunning restored boat. Kate and Dan escape for a few moments to enjoy the views and a quiet moment before the reception.
Woodland themed Wedding Reception
Guests enjoyed the rest of the evening in the intimate woodland room at the Lake Placid Lodge. Dining on delicious food and dancing non stop, there was so much fun to be had. The toasts were so personal and beautiful I was touched by Kate’s father’s words as he shared the story of her saving his life. Never has a moment felt more real than when words and memories are shared so full of truth.
