It’s the last day of 2012, and I’m coming off a week of no blogging, little to no social media, and as close to a break from work as I ever get. To be honest, I didn’t intentionally plan to keep things 97% work free… but as usual I learned the hard way what happens when you check email and don’t leave work at work (which of course is ironic, because I work from home). After that I stayed away from my phone and invested fully in spending time with my family.

It was freeing.

While I’ve always known I can be more productive when I focus on work (and cut out distractions) and then balance that with time off, this little break made it clear. Blogging has always been fun, and since I’m terrible at journaling it serves not only as a place to share recent work but a catalog of my life – where I’ve been and what I’m up to. So, today I put up a few posts for last week. I look forward to keeping posts current but I’m not putting too much pressure on myself as I balance that with preparing for the baby, arriving in a few weeks. That is so strange to say, but if you saw me you’d know it’s true :)

As I think about the new year I hope to lead a more balanced life and to invest even more in real relationships in addition to fostering those online. Tomorrow I’ll share more of my goals and thoughts, but for now it’s time to get ready for a fun night at home ringing in the new year with friends!

thanks for the picture, Matt! This is the face I gave when he told me to look angry… since apparently that’s all I looked like in the other pictures he took. Reverse psychology works pretty well on me.
