I love the Adirondack’s. My husband loves them even more, having spent his childhood biking of it’s waterfalls and exploring deep trails of the forest. This weekend I’m visiting for the first time without him, and photographing the gorgeous fall wedding of Ryan & Kat today. So this post is for you, Matt, since you’ve always shared the Adirondack’s with me and I can’t come here and not think of you!

The first time I visited in 2005 it was the summer before my senior year of college. The next morning Matt was up early to be one of the lead cyclists for the lake placid marathon, and when we met up that morning he asked if I wanted to jump in the canoe race that was about to take place in lake flower. It caught me off guard. Canoe race? With my new boyfriend the expert canoeist who had won 100 milers? I let my lack of confidence get the better of me and I still wish we had done the race.

Three years later, we were back in the Adirondack’s on a crisp fall day enjoying breakfast at one of Matt’s favorite places, Blue Moon. He had the usual – eggs benedict – as well as several cups of coffee. After a leisurely breakfast, the rain started to pour and it looked like a perfect fall day would be spent indoors. Matt persisted and we ventured out to trails where we spotted fall colors, dodged raindrops, and he proposed.

That day was almost exactly 5 years ago today. I know we’ll keep coming back, and have more stories and memories of this place.
