It started when we were in college… I think… like most good stories the details are fuzzy and can be stretched as needed. My parents had more time with my sister and I gone and started to try new things. They ushered at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (and still do) and went to as many Tigers games as their schedules would allow (a lot). They also started dancing. A few classes here, a successful New Years Eve there, soon they were hooked and each room was judged by it’s possibility to be a dance floor, each moment a possibility to clear the chairs and practice whatever dance they were learning. I could call them on any given weekend and almost guarantee they were headed out to a dance and staying up later than I planned to be.

They have reached a new level, where they no longer just dance but they plan dances. Dancing at the Grand is happening April 5th at the Detroit Yacht Club, with a lesson at 7 and the band starting at 8:15- midnight. It’s open to the public and only $25 with an additional $5 for the lesson so you can dance to the big band + swing music The Rhythm Society will be playing. To get tickets or more info email my dad at jgibson1074 @ gmail.com

Yes, I’m totally plugging this for them and I honestly think you would have fun if you went (for the few of you who are reading and live in Michigan). I’m pretty sure they have high hopes for this to be the first of many if all goes well, so go meet my immediate family and come back with stories to tell. I’ll be in Philadelphia wishing I could be there, dancing like I did at my wedding six years ago. (thanks again for the photos, Anne Ruthmann!)
