Even after a long weekend away it can take some time to get back into the swing of things. It’s good preparation, however, as I have several trips still planned for 2012 and can’t wait to visit new places and good friends. One of the things that always gets thrown off track when I travel is running. I got out for a run only one of the four days I was in New Mexico, and needed to confess that to you guys. I actually took this image on that run which was around the foothills of the sandia mountains. If you’re wondering – yes, the elevation was brutal – but the view was totally worth it. It helps to step out of routine every once in a while and see life from a new perspective, and then it’s satisfying to get back in to the routine and daily accomplishments that come with it.

I decided in the past week that I should definitely run a marathon. Running has long been a part of my life and routine, but as of late I haven’t set the goals needed to push myself further or try something new. Last summer I competed in a half-ironman for the first time, and since I have yet to run a marathon, that seems like a logical next step. With the travel schedule I have this year it will once again be a challenge to make running a part of my routine no matter where I am, but I know I need the accountability and drive even when I’m away. So, the next step is finding something that fits into my weekend-packed schedule. I’m open to suggestions on favorite races and would love to hear if you have any running or marathon goals this year as well! (ps congrats to any boston finishers reading!)
