We spent a little under two hours sharing, asking questions, getting off track, discussing the future, getting back on track, encouraging each other, laughing and taking pictures. It was my first mentor session and I couldn’t have picked a better person to start with than Olya Myers.
I had donated the session to an auction at Browncroft Community Church after I was approached by Sarah, a member of the youth group who I had previously photographed. I heard from Olya once she had won the auction and her enthusiasm was already evident. Now, whenever that kind of happiness and enthusiasm is forced into social media it gets watered down. I wasn’t sure what Olya was like in person but it turns out she is one of the happiest people and it’s contagious.
Olya is at that wonderful and terrifying place where the doors have just begun to open, the desire to pursue is there but the path looks so uncertain and the future is entirely to be decided. Honestly though, is the future ever decide? Does anyone feel completely certain and if so don’t you long for the challenge of adventure? We are all on a journey through life and it’s much better to share it with others.
I can’t wait to see where photography takes you and more importantly where God leads you, Olya! Here are some of my favorite images captured…
