I wouldn’t recommend that most people take maternity photos just shy of 38 weeks pregnant. Sure, you will look very pregnant… but that’s the thing, you’ll look really pregnant. At this stage in the game you think things like “did I really have to gain 40 pounds to appreciate my body before?” and “will I ever be a normal person again?” However, when my good friend Tierney (and favorite second shooter from 2012) came up for a visit last week we decided to take some maternity photos just to remember this point in life… and thankfully she made me look good.

When all is said and done, I think any photo session should leave you feeling better about yourself. When stepping in front of the lens it unravels all of those insecurities you’ve been holding on to. There’s no where to hide and you hope for the best. As a photographer, it’s important to get on that other side and take notice of the things you are thinking and feeling. I find being photographed only helps me adjust and relate to everyone I’m photographing.

I’ve been saying two things with regularity lately: enjoy it while it lasts & give the people what they want.

Everything is changing in our lives – and has been for the past 9+ months – which is why I want to enjoy each stage while it lasts. The married without a baby days when we gallivanted around carefree, the pregnant days when everything started to change and our lives became so much more than just ourselves, and soon the newborn months that will go by in a flash and introduce us to our little one. It continues on and on.

On the other hand, I know you. At least I think I do… and everyone likes a good pregnant picture of someone else. In fact just the other night I spent 20 minutes looking through Kim Kardashian’s “baby bump” photos in some online magazine gallery (verdict: she really doesn’t have a bump at all).

So today I present to you a few of my favorites from our recent maternity photos. Tierney was kind enough to let me share some of the images on this blog, and perhaps you’ll end up seeing a few more over on her site – either way you should check out her work here. Thanks for the visit Tierney and for making me look so good at this stage in the game :)
