I was convinced I had posion ivy. After traipsing through the woods on Friday I drove three hours and arrived at our cabin. Matt was there waiting and I told him about the amazing wedding I photographed – an elopement in the woods. As one of two witnesses present it was unlike anything I have seen and honestly an honor to be a part of. However there was posion ivy in the area and despite my best attempts to avoid it I worried I would wake up in the morning covered in boils. Matt ran out to the store to pick up several remedies. A posion ivy wash, rubbing alcohol, itch cream, and so on. I used the wash and prayed for the best… and whether it was caught early enough or never posion ivy in the first place I awoke Saturday morning unscathed.
That made the weekend a lot more enjoyable. Our family stayed overlooking Keuka Lake and within minutes of Esperanza Mansion at Bluff Point of View. On Saturday I documented Margaret + Chris’ wedding day which was planned to perfection – down to scheduling all of the photos during beautiful weather and saving the rain until the reception. Can I tell you how nice it was to not have a 2-3 hour drive home after the wedding? It was amazing. We had originally planned the weekend because Matt was registered in the Peasantman half ironman, but sadly due to a nasty cold turned in to bronchitis, he was forced to sit out.
So instead, we enjoyed a few hours that seemed like vacation – dipping toes in the water, taking a nap on the porch and eating some delicious local ice cream. Being close to water – even if you’re overlooking it from high above – is something we love. I think we need to move closer, or spend more time traveling to parks and taking advantage of the free lakefront property you can have while camping. Armed with a few bottles of wine we headed home ready for a visit from my mother in law and full from a delicious meal at Roots Cafe in Naples. It’s hard to know where the weekend began and the work stopped, but I’m diving in today to edit as many pictures as possible and present you with more lovely work tomorrow.
