It’s bittersweet. It seems a certain coyote or fox took an interest in our chickens and snatched two away from us the night we came back from Michigan. It wasn’t anyone’s fault in particular (Matt was feeling guilty), but we are building up security and making sure it doesn’t happen again. A tragedy even as small as this gives you a new perspective and we’ve been through more with our chickens both good and bad than you would think. So, with the loss of Flossie and Ramona (who we had recently nursed back to health) we were left with only two and decided we needed to add to the brood. We considered chicks but our up coming travel schedule wouldn’t really allow it, so today we brought home three teenage birds, already 3 months old. They will spend a few days getting acquainted in their own coop before they move in with our two remaining hens, Lola and Bea, an I thought I’d introduce them to you as well. Oh, ps in case you’re new here and are wondering why I am posting about chickens, read up on our past adventures here which started a year ago when we got our first set of four baby chicks.

First up – Animal. Matt named her after the muppets character because of her fluffy face. She’s sweet even if she didn’t get the memo about shaving.

Next we have : fiancé, named after the 30 rock episode for griz’s fiancé, Fiancé. Our names have gotten crazier.

Lastly, Imogene. I’ve been interested in that name ever since I read Imogene’s Antler’s as a child, and I think she fits the bill.

It’s still sad to see two of our chickens missing from the coop, but we’re excited to have these girls join… and they are suppose to lay light blue + green eggs – hooray! What I’ve been waiting for.
